Ivory Coast gets connectivity boost with launch of Yahsat's high-speed broadband service YahClick

  • YahClick, Africa’s leading satellite broadband service, launches in the Ivory Coast
  • YahClick will give customers access to reliable, cost-effective, high performance Internet connectivity
  • Yahsat appoints CEENET Technologies as official Service Partner in the Ivory Coast

Abidjan - Ivory Coast, 24 September 2018 – YahClick, the satellite broadband service of UAE-based global satellite operator Yahsat, officially launched in the Ivory Coast. The launch of the service was announced during a press conference in the country’s economic capital, Abidjan, where the company also announced its partnership with Service Partner CEENET Technologies.

The arrival of Ka-band satellite broadband through YahClick is set to improve the country’s Internet penetration, which remains strikingly low. According to the latest available figures from 2016, the country’s Internet penetration across the total population stood at just 27 percent*.  Reports also suggest that only 2 percent of households in rural communities have Internet access, compared to 16 percent of households in urban areas**.

Thanks to the Ka-band powered by the High Throughput Satellite (HTS) spot beam technology it is delivered through, YahClick offers high-speed, reliable and cost-effective satellite broadband services using smaller dishes. This significantly reduces the CAPEX required to set up the infrastructure for a satellite based connectivity solution, which until now was almost a prohibitive proposition for most. The launch of YahClick in the Ivory Coast, thus, promises to boost the nation’s telecoms ecosystem, making it robust enough to support the country in unlocking its full social and economic potential.

“Our decision to launch YahClick in the Ivory Coast stems from our commitment to help meet the connectivity needs of African markets by providing high-performance satellite broadband services to more businesses and communities,” said Farhad Khan, Chief Commercial Officer at Yahsat. “YahClick is today the leading satellite broadband service in Africa thanks to its coverage and proven reliability, as well as the local knowledge and trusted customer service provided by our Service Partners such as CEE-NET here in the Ivory Coast” added Khan.

The Ivory Coast launch follows the successful delivery of YahClick in Ghana, the DRC and Burundi earlier this month, and occurs just days before the service is to commence in Cameroon.

Michael Morris, CEO of CEENET Technologies added “We’re in the business of breaking down the barriers affecting major sectors of our economy by providing reliable connectivity. By offering YahClick, we will connect businesses and government to affordable, reliable and always -on broadband, as well as to underserved parts of the nation.”

Yahsat launched its flagship service, YahClick, in Africa in 2012. It was the first operator to introduce HTS Ka-Band satellite broadband technology to the continent through Yahsat’s Al Yah 2 satellite. Following the successful launch earlier this year, and the recent commercial readiness of the company’s third satellite Al Yah 3, YahClick’s footprint has extended to 19 additional markets in Africa, including the Ivory Coast.

The expansion is part of Yahsat’s commitment to deliver affordable, reliable and high-speed Internet connectivity to unserved and underserved parts of the world.
