- YahClick, Africa’s leading satellite broadband service launches in Cameroon
- YahClick will give customers access to reliable, cost-effective, high performance Internet connectivity
- Yahsat appoints Ringo, Techfora and Swecom as official Service Partners in Cameroon
Douala - Cameroon, 27 September 2018– YahClick, the satellite broadband service of UAE-based global satellite operator Yahsat, officially launched in Cameroon. The launch of the service was announced during a press conference in the country’s commercial capital, Douala, where the company also announced its partnership with Service Partners Ringo, Techfora and Swecom.
The arrival of YahClick promises to offer solutions that can help Cameroon navigate the connectivity hurdles that exist today as a result of the limited telecommunication infrastructure in place. Reportedly, Cameroon’s ICT sector accounts for just 3.5 percent of the country’s GDP*, while only 25 percent of the population experiences consistent Internet access. This figure ranks Cameroon 18th among sub-Saharan Africa’s 48 nations for Internet penetration, according to the World Bank. **
The reliability of the YahClick connection sets it apart from terrestrial services thanks to the state-of-the-art satellite communications technology it deploys. The service uses the Ka-band frequency powered by the High Throughput Satellite (HTS) spot beam technology enabling the delivery of greater broadband capacity at faster speeds to smaller dishes. This significantly reduces the CAPEX required to set up the infrastructure for a satellite-based connectivity solution, which until now was prohibitively expensive. The launch of YahClick in Cameroon promises to boost the nation’s telecoms ecosystem, and support the country in unlocking its social and economic potential.
“With YahClick’s launch in Cameroon, we reinforce our commitment to advance the region’s ICT sector and bring the transformational benefits of reliable, always – on broadband to within reach of all businesses and communities.” commented Farhad Khan, Chief Commercial Officer at Yahsat. “Yahsat is the first satellite operator to introduce Ka-band satellite broadband in Africa. As a company at the forefront of the region’s broadband revolution, we aim to continuously increase YahClick’s adoption across markets to trigger positive change across communities and businesses in Cameroon.” Added Khan.
The Cameroon launch follows the successful delivery of YahClick last month in Burundi that was followed by launches in Ghana and the DRC this month and the Ivory Coast as recently as on Monday of this week. YahClick will be available through Yahsat’s in-country Service Partners Ringo, Techfora and Swecom.
Eric Plunian, Sales and Marketing Executive at Ringo also commented “We are constantly looking at more effective opportunities to help overcome the communication challenges facing Cameroon, so that communities and businesses are empowered to flourish. By partnering with Yahsat to introduce YahClick’s leading, high-performance technology, we hope to further spread dependable Internet connectivity in the country.”
Technical Director at Techfora Denis Akam added “The introduction of YahClick gives us the opportunity to enhance the telecommunications ecosystem, this in-turn can only support in providing more opportunities for both communities and businesses alike. From consumers to businesses, banks, agriculture and government, all sectors stand to benefit from reliable, high-speed connectivity in the long term.”
Joel Nlepe , Commercial Director at Swecom concluded “By introducing YahClick’s game-changing technology to Cameroon, we’re able to offer Internet connectivity through best-in-class satellite broadband services. We look forward to working with Yahsat to bring Africa’s leading satellite broadband to our growing customer base”.
Yahsat was the first satellite operator to introduce HTS Ka-Band broadband technology in Africa through the Al Yah 2 satellite. Following the commercial readiness of the company’s third satellite, Al Yah 3, earlier this year, Yahsat’s footprint has extended to 19 additional markets in Africa, now including Cameroon. The expansion across Africa is part of Yahsat’s commitment to deliver affordable and reliable Internet services to underserved parts of the world and usher in a new era of high-speed connectivity.
