Sharif Mahmood, Yahsat Chief Executive Officer said: “Al Yah 3 marks another milestone for Yahsat, expanding our footprint to new markets and reinforcing our vision to be the global partner of choice for reliable, innovative and affordable satellite solutions. The success of both Y1A and Y1B in providing government, NGO, consumer and corporate services has given us the drive to explore new growth avenues.”

Al Yah 3 will utilize the most advanced technology available in the market, will extend the company’s commercial Ka-band coverage across the African continent and will for the first time cover South America. The service will provide wide reaching, reliable and cost effective satellite broadband and internet connectivity to unserved and underserved communities, consumers, enterprises and telecom operators.

“Our success is in large part to the world-class international experts and Emirati professionals that work side by side to make Yahsat a truly multicultural company that encourages and drives our employees to meet and exceed challenges with confidence,” added Mahmood.

Yahsat will soon be announcing its partners for the manufacture and launch of Al Yah 3, and will continue to explore options for the provision of its ground and network system. The company will also continue discussions to finalize its strategic distribution partnerships across Africa and Brazil. Given the unique qualities of each market, the go to market model will be tailored to ensure customer experience and value are optimised.

Al Yah 3 will be an all Ka-band high throughput satellite, with a unique design that optimizes cost, capacity, coverage and flexibility. It will enable delivery of affordable broadband, directly or indirectly to over 600 million users in both continents, specifically covering more than 95% of the population in Brazil. Yahsat and Thuraya co-host annual Satellite Industry reception in Washington DC

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, March 26th, 2014: Al Yah Satellite Communications Company, Yahsat, the Abu Dhabi based satellite operator co-hosted an event last week with Thuraya Telecommunications Company, a leading Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) operator, at the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Washington D.C., which was attended by His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United States of America, as well as more than three hundred of the Space industry’s top executives.

The annual reception is a celebration of the UAE’s burgeoning satellite and space industry and brought together key industry decision makers for an evening of networking, conversation, and learning on the outskirts of the annual Satellite 2014 Conference, which took place from March 10th-13th.

Senior United States government and military officials, representatives from other nations, and senior executives from the satellite and aerospace industries including Airbus, Astrium Satellite, Boeing, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, Lockheed Martin, Orbital Science, Space Systems/Loral (SSL) and more also attended the gala, including world-famous astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

“In a very short period of time, Yahsat was able to cement its position as one of the leading satellite operators in the world in addition to being the number one satellite broadband operator in Africa, all thanks to a strong network of partners, suppliers and customers,” said Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer for Yahsat.

“Our satellites, Y1A and Y1B, are on the cutting edge of technology. Yahsat is often considered to be the reference in the Middle East region when it comes to servicing government satellite communications. Similarly, we are able to service enterprise and end-users through our satellites. It is this type of commitment to the global community, be it in the Middle East region or the United States, which drives Yahsat to lead in the future generations of satellite technology.”

Commenting on the annual reception, Samer Halawi, Chief Executive Officer at Thuraya, said: “The UAE has quietly developed itself as a centre for space and satellite excellence with three homegrown satellite operators, Dubai-sat, YahSat and Thuraya. We are grateful for the support and commitment of the UAE government to the UAE satellite industry. Thuraya has been driving innovation in the satellite world since our debut. Last year we launched the Thuraya SatSleeve, the first and only satellite adapter for smartphones. The device has won innovation awards for being a game-changer.”

Thuraya is an industry leading MSS operator and a global telecommunication provider offering innovative communications solutions to a variety of sectors including energy, broadcast media, maritime, military and humanitarian NGO. Thuraya’s superior network enables clear communications and uninterrupted coverage across two thirds of the globe by satellite and across the whole planet through its unique GSM roaming capabilities.
Yahsat’s government operations arm, YahService, enjoyed a tremendous year by fulfilling the operational requirements of several high-level agreements in the United Arab Emirates, and successfully extending the service’s reach regionally and internationally, most notably through capacity agreements via YahService.

In September 2012, Yahsat launched YahClick, offering broadband coverage over 28 countries with a total combined population of more than 1 billion people. YahClick is designed to provide satellite broadband Internet to a wide range of industries, including NGOs, government, educational organisations, media and broadcast, as well as home users.

In 2013, Yahsat won the coveted SatCom Africa award for “Most Innovative Product and Service for Africa” for the second consecutive year for YahClick, as well as SAMENA’s “Best Satellite Services” award for YahClick.

Yahsat Announces Commercial Achievement Figures for 2013

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March 11th, 2014: Al Yah Satellite Communications Company, Yahsat, the Abu Dhabi based satellite operator, today announced the company’s commercial milestones and associated average revenue per user (ARPU) figures for the fiscal year ending December 2013. The first year of operation results have positioned last year’s successful roll-out of YahClick, the company’s flagship high-speed satellite broadband internet service, as the leading satellite broadband Ka-band service across Africa.

The company made the announcement on the first day of CABSAT, the Middle East and Africa’s number one satellite telecommunications, broadcasting and professional content management event, taking place from March 11-13 at the Dubai World Trade Center.

During YahClick’s first year of operation in 2013, the blended average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) ranged between $100-$125. In addition, the company’s in-country Service Partners across the 12 markets launched to date have acquired more than 20,000 subscribers in 2013. YahClick is currently available in Angola, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, UAE, Turkey, Yemen, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

“Part of our mandate as a company is to be the global partner of choice for reliable, innovative and affordable satellite solutions, and a company that is able to drive social and economic growth across continents for both home and business users,” said Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer for Yahsat. “With this approach in mind, we were able to become the number one Ka-band broadband satellite provider in Africa within a year of launching the YahClick service. This is testament to the quality of service and the benefits that YahClick brings to delivering much needed connectivity to fast developing regions throughout Africa, the Middle East and Central and South West Asia.”

“Broadband internet is a highly competitive market industry, across the countries where YahClick is operational, there is a distinct lack of reliable high-speed internet infrastructure, particularly in rural or remote areas,” explained Mahmood. “In South Africa for example, YahClick is used by the Police Force to monitor remote stations and deploy traffic management services and applications across the country. YahClick connections are more reliable and much faster than dated mobile internet technologies, and they bypass the infrastructure requirement for fixed line technologies for easier deployment. Above all, YahClick provides coverage over vast geographic regions, irrespective of population density in these locations. It’s largely due to these factors that YahClick has been so positively welcomed across our service areas,” added Shawkat Ahmed, Chief Commercial Officer for Yahsat.

“At the household level, the internet plays a very important role in improving educational standards for children and young adults so they can compete in today’s world,” Shawkat continued. “YahClick is all about providing an affordable means for residents of small towns and rural areas to engage in the educational and economic opportunities made available to those living in large urban areas where communications networks are more developed.”

Much of this success goes back to Yahsat’s promise of connecting the unconnected, where the company’s YahClick service has been deployed to provide much-needed connectivity for the Ministry of Interior in Afghanistan, where YahClick was used for National ID registration. Similarly, YahClick was used for the NGA project in Pakistan to offer education through vans fitted with YahClick, allowing for a mobile education initiative roll-out across the country. In Kenya, YahClick was used to connect rural health clinics in a country-wide eHealth project, while schools in Nigeria were connected as part of the universal broadband program being deployed across the country.

YahClick also offers YahClick Insure, which is designed to maintain connectivity for business and enterprise users as an instant backup solution, should the user’s primary terrestrial internet link be disrupted. By paying only when they actually use the YahClick service, this allows businesses to minimise potential loss of revenue or productivity risks caused by terrestrial internet outages.

YahClick is beamed through Yahsat’s second satellite Y1B satellite, the first satellite in the region to offer internet connectivity through Ka-band multi-spot beams, providing a greater level of overall efficiency and cost-effective broadband solutions.

Yahsat Demonstrates YahClick Go at CABSAT

Cabsat – UAE, Dubai, Tuesday 13th March: Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PrJSC (Yahsat), a private joint stock company fully owned by Mubadala, has launched its live transportable connectivity solution, YahClick Go, for customers who require instant broadband connectivity in changing outdoor locations. Visitors to the Yahsat stand at Cabsat (B2-10) can witness a live on-screen transmission from the YahClick Go vehicle-mounted terminal located outside the exhibition halls.

YahClick Go enables broadcasters, businesses, government entities, and individuals to travel within the same country or across borders with quickly and cost effective connection to high performance broadband internet at their destination, no matter how remote.

Shawkat Ahmed, Yahsat Chief Commercial Officer said: “Our transportable broadband internet solution is vital for any individual or organisation that needs internet access across a variety of changing outdoor locations. Our YahClick Go service ensures customers can now achieve the same performance in every location, regardless of landscape or infrastructure presence. For example, you can be in a crowded city in the morning and in a small isolated village in the afternoon, and still access the same quality high-speed, reliable satellite broadband internet from the same equipment.”

The YahClick Go user terminal consists of an auto pointing antenna that can be mounted on a standard SUV and operated by single or multiple users. The YahClick Go service also delivers a significantly lower cost in terms of recurring fees and first time equipment/installation compared with traditional transportable satellite systems. Most importantly, YahClick Go provides much higher speeds at significantly lower transmission costs without the need to forecast or reserve bandwidth in advance. For broadcasters and other businesses looking to manage fleet costs, YahClick Go is a totally pre-paid solution that allows headquarters to determine exactly how much each subscriber is allowed to spend. Users are only charged for the data they actually transmit or receive, with no wasted charges for “waiting time or booking time”, common satellite industry complaints.

Designed to establish instant data communications virtually anywhere in the YahClick coverage area spanning the Middle East, Africa, Central and South West Asia region, YahClick Go is suitable for a wide range of industries. For example, media and broadcasters can cost effectively use YahClick Go to increase their direct broadcasting and forward transmissions from different locations for breaking news, social activities and other forms of newsgathering.

While satellite transportable services are well known among broadcasters and media personnel, the YahClick Go service cost effectively opens this sector to other business segments. For example, YahClick Go can be used by rural medical officers sharing patient data from remote locations with medical experts in main cities or across the world. In addition, YahClick Go is ideal for the oil and gas sector transmitting video from local sites to expert analysts in the HQ, the construction industry achieving internet connectivity even before the first brick has been laid, or any entity requiring disaster recovery services for instant communication when terrestrial means of communication are no longer available. In the same instance, governments can use the service to provide immediate connection for various e-government applications for mobile government service outlets, election posts, and community outreach programs.

YahClick Go offers subscription plans designed for broadcasters offering prioritized uplink signal transmission and different service plans for businesses, governments and private users needing high speed download capabilities.

The YahClick broadband service covers 28 countries across the Middle East, Africa, South West and Central Asia. Already operational in Angola, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria and South Africa, YahClick will complete service roll out by the end of 2013 in partnership with 30 in-market Service Providers.

Yahsat to showcase latest offerings at CABSAT

Dubai, 10 March, 2013, Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PrJSC (Yahsat), a private joint stock company fully owned by Mubadala, will be running live demonstrations of its game changing satellite broadband internet product, YahClick, to businesses and home users at this year’s Cabsat 2013 exhibition.

For the first time, visitors to the Yahsat stand will be able to gain real-time touch and feel of YahClick, enabling them to directly experience state of the art, affordable satellite broadband over the industry changing Ka band technology. The arrival of cost effective Ka-band to the region finally puts satellite connectivity within the reach of home users and small businesses, not just for high end corporates as has been the norm in the satellite industry.

Already operational in Angola, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, and South Africa, YahClick is fast becoming one of the region’s must have products due to its high speed, reliability and cost effectiveness that in some cases surpasses the quality of existing terrestrial services in these markets. With 25,000 terminals shipped in its first quarter of operation in key launch markets, the YahClick service is providing much needed broadband internet connectivity to urban, rural and remote communities across the Middle East, Africa, Central and South West Asia.

Commenting on Yahsat’s participation at Cabsat, Shawkat Ahmed, Yahsat Chief Commercial Officer said: “This is our first Cabsat since going live with the YahClick service. We are here to invite the satellite community and prospective subscribers to experience the product they have been eagerly anticipating since the launch of Y1B in April 2012. Cabsat is a great opportunity for us to meet customers and potential prospects face to face, and this year we are pleased to announce we have delivered on our promise to bring cutting edge technology to the region. The exhibition also provides us the chance to further discuss our plans for 2013 including our in-market Service Partners helping to fully embed YahClick across our coverage area spanning 28 markets.”

YahClick will complete service roll out by the end of 2013 in partnership with 30 in-market Service Partners.

In addition to high speed subscription service plans for primary connectivity for unserved or unserved home users, businesses, government entities, and NGOs, YahClick also offers a back-up connectivity solution. This service is designed for any entity that cannot risk being without continuous internet access for financial, security or legal reasons in case their primary link is disrupted due to undersea cable cuts, vandalism, congestion, or network outage.

Also on demonstration at Cabsat is YahClick Go, the vehicle mounted transportable service that instantly provides high speed internet connectivity in changing locations for broadcasters, businesses, government entities, and even private users camping or hunting in remote areas.

At significantly lower cost per Gigabyte transmitted, YahClick Go is an ideal alternative to existing technologies which often do not meet demand or cannot match connection speeds for uplink and downlink requirements.

Media visitors to Cabsat can view the live transmission service from YahClick Go at the Yahsat stand. YahClick Go can help broadcasters reduce transmission costs, avoid surprise bills through pre-paid data, and access the Internet while changing locations without the need to forecast or reserve bandwidth in advance while always managing fleet usage costs by paying only for data consumed, not waiting time.

The YahClick service is beamed through Yahsat’s Y1B satellite, the first satellite in the region to offer internet connectivity through cutting edge Ka-band multi-spot beam technology, with reusable frequencies to maximize spectrum efficiency and reduce cost of satellite service. The multi-spot beam technology means higher power on the ground, which enables use of a smaller antenna size, which reduces costs of hardware, installation and maintenance. Since the launch of Y1B satellite, the full YahClick system has undergone comprehensive testing and validation to ensure the product is ready to achieve maximum performance.

Visitors to Cabsat can also learn more about Yahsat’s service YahLink, a satellite connectivity service offering cost effective C-band or Ka-Band solutions to a number of entities including terrestrial internet service providers, large corporates and government agencies. Yahsat’s portfolio also includes YahService, a solutions provider of secure connectivity services including breach proof encryption and robust communication security for government agencies, and managed solutions capabilities for commercial and government entities. Yahsat also has a satellite TV broadcasting offering called YahLive, a joint partnership with world renowned European satellite operator SES.
“We want to showcase products that suit a wide range of clientele and Cabsat is the perfect platform to do so,” adds Ahmed.

Running from 12-14th of March, Cabsat is the region’s largest broadcast digital media and satellite exhibition. Yahsat will be exhibiting its YahClick product with live demos in addition to several of their other products during Cabsat at its stand located at B2-10.
